Memories of  The Squatters

New Washington's Hostel Estate

The Hostel Estate aka 'The Squatters'

( RAF Aerial Photograph dated 13 March 1956 )

Squatters Hut Plan
The first 'Squatters' moved into the Huts on This Site in August 1946.
The large building north of the vertical road (far-left) is the original Usworth Working Men's Club - 'The Top Club'.
This road continues south passing the Style Inn (off-picture) and Usworth Gardeners' Club.
